The Visionary Founder
Our Noble Roots

Padamshri Mona Chandravati Gupta

(20.10.1896 - 30.12.1984)

Mona Chandravati Gupta was born on October 20th, 1896 in Rangoon, Burma (now Myanmar). Educated in Rangoon and London, she graduated from Diocesan College, Calcutta, before dedicating her life to public service and education in Lucknow.

Her illustrious career saw her appointed as Vice Principal of Government Girls College, Lucknow, and as a member of the Committee to Review University Education for Women (1934-35). Her selfless service was recognized with the Kaiser-i-Hind medal in 1939 and the prestigious Padma-Shri in 1965.

Beyond academia, she served on the Courts of Allahabad and Lucknow Universities and was a member of the U.P. Legislative Council. Her legacy was carried forward by her son, Mr. Mahesh Chandra, who devoted 40 years to Nari Sewa Samiti. Today, her grand daughter-in-law, Ms. Piya Krishna, continues this noble mission as the Founder's Representative.
